Instagram Expands Sharing to Reels To All Developers
Instagram is making Sharing to Reels available to all developers, enabling people to share video content to Instagram Reels directly from third-party apps. The integration was tested with apps such as the editing app Videolap, the AI face-swap app ReFace, and the music app Smule. When integrated into an app, users will be able to share video content to Instagram Reels and customize it using Reels' editing tools, such as audio, stickers, effects, and more.
Why it Matters: Sharing to Reels is similar to TikTok's Direct Post feature, allowing creators to share content directly to third-party apps without the need to download the content first and manually upload it to Reels. The key difference between this and Direct Post is that users are directed to the Reels editing experience, where they can further customize the video and publish it with captions, hashtags, and more. With Direct Post, the full editing and publishing experience occurs within the third-party app.
