LinkedIn Brings 'Videos for You' & Vertical Video Feed to the WeB
LinkedIn has expanded its Videos for You feature to desktop. The feature, which is a carousel of recommended videos, was mobile-only when it launched in the summer. Now, it’s appearing on the web version of LinkedIn. Similar to mobile, Videos for You are displayed between content in the feed.
When you click on a video, it opens with the video front and center, and the caption displayed to the right. There are also up and down arrows on the right side of the video to navigate to the next or previous video via a vertical video feed.
Why It Matters: Expanding Videos for You and the vertical video feed to desktop creates a more consistent and dedicated video experience across devices. While mobile users have had features like 'Videos for You' and a dedicated video tab to discover content, the web version lacked similar functionality—until now.
Many people are using their mobile devices when on social media, but with LinkedIn’s tie to the professional world, accessing LinkedIn from a laptop or computer via web/desktop is also common. This makes these additional touchpoints relevant, as they bring more video content to users who are using devices beyond their phones. That also means more opportunities for video creators to reach users, which leads to a higher potential for more views.
This follows up LinkedIn’s recent redesign to make videos more prominent in the feed, highlighting LinkedIn’s rapid investment in video.
With TikTok’s recent events and many creators already gravitating towards LinkedIn as a channel, LinkedIn’s updates are bound to catch the attention of more creators looking to diversify.
