Instagram has launched a new feature allowing users to turn Carousel posts into Reels.

By selecting the three dots at the top right of a post, users can choose the "Create Reel from this post" option. This automatically syncs the photos and videos in the carousel with recommended audio, which users can either accept or replace with other audio from the platform's library.

After selecting the audio, they can edit the Reel and proceed with the usual publishing workflow, adding captions and other details.

Why It Matters: This feature provides a quick way for users to repurpose their Carousel posts as Reels, similar to Instagram’s existing option for turning Stories Highlights into Reels.

Since Reels are one of the best ways for creators to expand their reach on the platform, this functionality allows creators and brands to extend the life of their content with minimal effort.

It’s particularly useful for photo-first creators who want to leverage Reels to grow their audience while showcasing their photo content. While many creators currently use third-party apps to create Reels featuring their photos with transitions, they now have the option to do it directly within the Instagram app.

Instagram’s move to show Carousel content in the Reels tab suggests it sees these formats as similiar, which is likely why it has also brought many features that were primary for Reels to Carousels as well, including most recently, the ability to add text overlays.
