Instagram Adds New Feature to Highlight Why Certain Reels Stand Out to Viewers
Instagram has added a new feature that provides users with context and insights into why certain Reels stand out. At the bottom of some Reels, below the caption, you’ll find details like 'Most views were longer than 3 seconds' or more specific stats such as '69% of viewers watched for longer than 3 seconds.'
When users click on these details, a "Why This Reel Stands Out" tray appears, offering additional information, such as the number of views (e.g., 601K views in the past 7 days), along with recommendations like "Use voiceover for better storytelling" and then "Create a Reel" or "Save the Reel” call to action buttons.
Why It Matters: This provides both creators and viewers with greater transparency into why content performs the way it does. For creators, it offers actionable insights to improve future content. By understanding what drives success, whether it's a strong hook, effective use of text, or engaging visuals, creators can optimize their strategy to reach a broader audience.
For viewers, it explains why certain Reels are trending, making the platform more informative and engaging. The tips and recommendations can also inspire viewers to create their own Reels, incorporating techniques that are working, such as using a voiceover or adding a call to action.
This feature complements Instagram's recent launch of a Best Practices Hub, which includes educational resources such as guides and short-form videos on content creation, engagement, reach, and monetization. These initiatives are part of Instagram’s broader goal to help creators understand why their content performs the way it does, while also offering actionable best practices to help them achieve their desired outcomes.
