Twitter Rolls Out 'Link Spotlight' To Allow Creators & Brands To Drive Visitors To Their Content, Products & Services
Twitter is rolling out Link Spotlight for all users in the U.S. with a Professional Account. The feature allows creators and brands to add an interactive button to their profiles. They can drive users to a URL and pair it with a Call-To-Action (CTA) button such as Listen Now, Watch Now, Read Now, and Make A Reservation. Currently, only URLs from an allowlist of domains can be added, such as YouTube, Twitch, Spotify, Substack, Apple Podcasts, Calendly, Ticketmaster, Esty, Kickstarter, OpenTable, and others.
With Link Spotlight, creators and brands get another opportunity to push traffic to destinations outside of Twitter, such as their content on other platforms like YouTube and Spotify or their products and services on commerce sites like Ticketmaster and Esty. The limitations of available CTAs and URLs certainly make the feature limited and less impactful, though. Adding custom CTAs and URLs would give users a greater degree of customization, but user inputs could bring new safety concerns.
Twitter joins other social platforms recently, expanding their link-sharing features like LinkedIn and Instagram. In May, LinkedIn enabled users to display a link on their profiles. Prior to that, Instagram introduced Link Stickers to all users. Additionally, Instagram is testing the ability for users to add multiple links in the bio of their profiles.
Despite drama with Elon Musk, Twitter continues to add new features that serve creators and brands.
