Threads now supports landscape videos on iOS devices. After a user discovered the ability to watch a video in landscape mode, the official Threads account responded to their post, confirming the feature. When watching a video, users can rotate their mobile device sideways, and the video will adjust to landscape mode, expanding to full screen for videos uploaded in a 16:9 ratio.

Why It Matters: Support for landscape videos improves the viewing experience by allowing videos to display in their intended orientation, offering a more immersive format. This update is particularly valuable for sports highlights, cinematic content such as movie trailers, and more higher-quality recordings that shine in landscape mode.

It also benefits creators who are repurposing their YouTube content on Threads, as this allows for a similar viewing experience to the one they designed for their audience. While vertical videos have taken over most social media experiences, landscape videos have received a little more attention this year, such as TikTok rewarding creators who share this type of content.
