LinkedIn Rolls Out Microsoft Designer For Creators To Generate Header Images for Articles and Newsletters
LinkedIn has rolled out a Microsoft Designer integration for Articles and Newsletters. When creators go to publish one of these, there is now a 'Create a Design' option to generate a header image using its parent company's AI-powered graphic tools.
The experience is the same as the Microsoft Designer integration that it tested with select creators (including myself) for posts this past summer. Creators can describe and use text prompts, along with adding their own media, to generate an image, utilizing AI.
Why It Matters: Although LinkedIn’s initial test of Microsoft Designer ended in September, it seems to have found a better use case for it — for creators to generate images for long-form content as opposed to short-form posts. Coming up with original visuals for this type of content can be time-consuming for some, so having an easy way to generate visuals within the experience can be valuable.
This update introduces yet another AI-related feature that LinkedIn has added to the platform. Outside of Meta, LinkedIn is perhaps the biggest adopter of generative AI across social media platforms, which shouldn’t be a big surprise, given that its parent company is investing significantly in the AI space.
In 2023, there was significant activity in AI for social media platforms, and this year is expected to follow suit. Start-ups focusing on AI tools must differentiate themselves or develop tools superior to the native ones built by social media platforms.
