Instagram Now Enables Users to Share Carousel Photos in Different Sizes without Altering Dimensions Using New Resize Options

Instagram has added a feature that enables users to share a carousel of photos in different sizes. During the editing process, users can click on a resize icon that offers three options: Original, Portrait (or Horizontal, depending on the first photo's ratio), and Square.

The Original option keeps the photos in their original sizes. The Portrait (or Horizontal) option resizes all photos to either portrait or horizontal format. The Square option resizes all photos to square format. After selecting an option, users can preview how each photo will appear when published, which includes borders for photos that don’t take up the full screen.

Why It Matters: This update allows creators to post a carousel of photos in different sizes directly, providing more flexibility in mixing and matching photos. Previously, creators often adhered to posting portrait photos, which take up the full screen, to stand out in the feed. However, this often meant being limited to posting only photos of that size, experiencing awkward cropping when posting different sizes, or resorting to third-party apps to arrange photos with borders before uploading to Instagram.

The ability to combine photos of different sizes—portrait and horizontal—gives users more freedom to post the content they prefer, which could lead to an increase in shared horizontal photos.

This update is beneficial for all creators and brands, but will especially exciting for photographers who wish to preserve the original composition and framing of their photos and fully represent their artistic vision.
