Facebook to Auto-Delete Live Videos After 30 Days Under New Storage Policy

Facebook Live Storage Update

Facebook

Facebook has updated its storage policy for Live Videos. As of February 19, new live broadcasts will only be available for replay, download, or sharing for 30 days before they are automatically removed. Live videos older than 30 days will also be deleted.

To help creators save their live videos, Facebook is introducing new tools, including:

  • The ability to download individual or bulk videos.

  • Direct transfers to Dropbox and Google Drive.

  • The option to clip segments from live videos to create Reels.

For creators who need more time to download their past live videos, Facebook is offering the option to defer deletion for up to six months.

Why It Matters: This policy update appears to be a cost-cutting measure, as video storage is expensive. With Meta’s significant investments in AI and the metaverse, it likely sees this as an easy way to reduce costs.

Since most live video views occur within the first few weeks, this change may not have a major impact on creators when it comes to performance. However, creators should take advantage of the available download options to keep their content and consider re-uploading content to other platforms like YouTube to ensure continued access for viewers over the long term.
