Boston University Launches a Creator Program to Highlight the Student Experience
Boston University has launched the Terrier Creator Program, a new initiative that allows undergraduate and graduate students to create original content for the university's official Instagram and TikTok accounts. Creators will showcase various aspects of the BU experience, including student life, research, dining, and the classroom. They will be compensated per video and have creative freedom within specific guidelines. Interested students can apply by filling out a form that asks for information about their interests, experience as a creator, links to their social media, and more.
In an insightful LinkedIn post, Dave McDonald, an Associate Director of Social Media at BU, shared how the program came to be, including details about the research process and the program's structure.
The program exemplifies how higher education institutions embrace the creator economy and value the contributions of creators. By partnering with student creators, BU can enhance its recruitment efforts by providing a genuine glimpse into student life on campus from those who are experiencing it firsthand. Social media has become a crucial tool for students researching colleges, making this program an excellent way for BU to showcase its unique offerings in a manner that appeals to younger audiences. It will also help BU to expand its social media presence by posting more engaged content produced by experienced creators.
The program offers students an opportunity to leverage their content creation skills and gain hands-on experience in producing content for an established institution. Creators can not only strengthen their resumes but also have the chance to earn income by doing something they enjoy and that is relevant. As content creation becomes a desired career path for many, programs like this, align with students' evolving career aspirations.
