YouTube launched a new “Device Type” card in YouTube Studio on desktop and mobile. The card breaks down the percentage of watch time in hours across TV, Mobile, Computer, and Tablet, ordered from highest to lowest. These can be filtered by Videos, Shorts, and Live.
Why It Matters: This enables creators to see where people are spending the most time watching their content – from mobile devices to TVs, which have become a more common way for people to watch YouTube content.
According to YouTube, viewers have streamed over 1 billion hours of content daily on their TVs. In addition, the number of top creators that receive the majority of their watch time on TVs has increased by more than 400%.
With TV specifically being included, creators can see how often their content is being viewed on TVs and in living rooms as well as by specific content type. With all this data, creators can optimize their content based on the viewing experience. For example, if a creator notices that their Shorts are getting a significant amount of watch time on TVs, it could be a signal to increase the quality of their Shorts for an upgraded TV viewing experience.
