TikTok Adds in-App Prompts for Location Tags and Reviews
TikTok is now prompting users to add a location for their videos, positioning it as a way for users to reach a larger audience. After adding a location, they are also prompted to write a review if they recommend the place. Users can then leave a star rating and type out a review in response to prompt questions and topics.
The ability to add reviews for locations such as restaurants and hotels continues to strengthen TikTok as a search engine. Along with competitors like Instagram and Snapchat, social media platforms have increasingly moved into the territory of search engines and review platforms like Google, Yelp, and TripAdvisor. Meanwhile, search engines and review platforms are adding features similar to social media platforms, particularly TikTok, such as vertical feeds with short-form video content, to adapt to evolving search behavior.
This is the latest location-related feature on TikTok. In the past six months, TikTok has launched or experimented with several features to help users find content based on location, including location tagging and a 'Nearby' tab displaying local content.
