Pinterest Deepens Its AR Capabilities With A New AR Try On Feature For Eyeshadow
Pinterest deepens the augmented reality experience on its platform with the launch of a new AR Try On feature for eyeshadow.
Currently, in beta, the feature allows users to try on products from over 4,000 brands, including Lancome, YSL, Urban Decay, and NYX Cosmetics.
How AR Try ON works
Pinterest users can leverage the feature by clicking the Lens camera in search and browsing the products they want to try on. If they see something they like, they can click through to purchase on the retailer pages. Unlike other AR experiences, the feature doesn’t come with any skin enhancements or altering effects.
What Else Is Pinterest Working On?
Along with the new AR Try On feature, Pinterest announced it's giving more advertisers access to product tagging and planning to give creators the ability to share shoppable Story Pins and tag products in their Pins in the coming weeks.
"Millions of people come to Pinterest every month to search for beauty ideas and inspiration. This is our latest step in bringing together the worlds of visual search and shopping as people come to Pinterest to shop early in their decision-making process, ready to discover new brands and products,” Pinterest said in a blog post.
The AR Try On feature is currently available on both, the iOS and Android app.
The Rise Of E-Commerce & Augmented Reality
Given the rise of e-commerce and augmented reality due to the pandemic, the new AR Try On feature comes at the perfect time. With more people shopping online, AR technology helps replicate the in-store shopping experience as AR provides the opportunity for consumers to “try on” a product and see how it looks on them before purchasing.
How This Will This Help Marketers
The feature will help marketers boost engagement on the platform, create a stronger online shopping experience for consumers, and optimize conversions. According to Pinterest, Try-on-enabled Pins can play a significant role in driving purchases as “Pinners are 5x more likely to show purchase intent on Try-on-enabled Pins than standard Pins.”
Thanks to the continued launch of new features and tools, Pinterest strengthens itself yet again as a shopping destination. Through features and tools like Shopping Spotlights, Product Pins, and much more, Pinterest is making it easy for consumers to shop from the convenience of their homes.
AR Is Just Getting Started
With other platforms like Google recently launching AR-powered shopping experiences, I expect the worlds of e-commerce and AR to intertwine down the road.
