LinkedIn Updates Video Player with New Icons and Save Post Button
LinkedIn has made some slight changes to the video player in its dedicated Video tab. The engagement icons – likes, comments, and shares – have been updated to a hollow style, meaning they are now outlined instead of solid icons. In addition, the volume button at the bottom has been replaced with a button to save a post.
Why It Matters: Switching to hollow icons gives the video player a cleaner, more minimal look and follows YouTube's lead, which recently announced it would update its video player, including changing its engagement icons to outlines rather than solid icons. The hollow icons are less visually dominant, drawing users' attention to the content first, while still providing easy access to interactions.
Replacing the volume button with a "save post" button streamlines the video player, making it easier for users to take action. Instead of clicking the top three dots to save a video, users can now save content directly from the video viewing experience. This change encourages viewers to save content they want to revisit later—such as tutorials, industry insights, or posts that inspire them. As a result, creators may see increased engagement over time as users save and return to their content
This also opens the door for LinkedIn to add a count for Saved Posts, similar to TikTok. A visible save count would give both creators and viewers another signal of a post’s value, alongside likes and comments. It also would also make sense, given LinkedIn's recent efforts around Saved Posts, such as making it easier for users to access saved content by moving Saved Items to the side panel on mobile and adding a Saved Posts button directly to the post menu, reducing the number of clicks needed to save a post.
Outside of these updates, LinkedIn has also been spotted testing a more prominent Follow button on creator videos.
