Threads Tests Advanced Search Filters & Expansion of Trending Topics

Lindsey Gamble / Threads

Threads has begun testing updates to both Search and Trending Now. For Search, this includes new features like the ability to search for posts within a specific date range and search for posts by individual accounts.

For Trending Now (currently available in the US), Threads is testing an expanded list of Trending Topics, along with AI-powered summaries of what people are discussing around those topics.

Why It Matters: These updates should improve both features. The new search capabilities will allow users to find more specific content, either by time or from specific accounts, addressing requests for more precise search options.

The expansion of Trending Topics will expose users to a wider variety of conversations happening across the platform, helping them discover a broader range of discussions. Meanwhile, AI-generated summaries will provide quick snapshots, making it easier for users to understand and engage with trends. Some of the initial summaries have been inaccurate, but this should improve over time.

These updates build on the launch of Custom Feeds, which lets users curate their own feeds by selecting a mix of hashtags and accounts. This feature helps users stay connected to the content that matters most to them.
