Instagram is simplifying the process for creators to upload and share IGTV content. With the IGTV icon at the top-right corner of the home screen of the app now gone, creators can upload IGTV content just as they would upload photos and videos to the main feed.

Now, when users click on the plus sign in the navigation area at the bottom of the home screen, they can choose between uploading a short video or a long video. Short videos are less than 60 seconds and can be uploaded directly to the feed while long videos are 60 seconds or more and can be tagged for IGTV. Users also have the option to share a 60-second preview of long videos in the feed, which then can be linked out to the full surface video.

In a statement to TechCrunch, an Instagram spokesperson explained the removal of the IGTV icon, stating the following:

"As we’ve continued to work on making it easier for people to create and discover IGTV content, we’ve learned that most people are finding IGTV content through previews in Feed, the IGTV channel in Explore, creators’ profiles and the standalone app. Very few are clicking into the IGTV icon in the top right corner of the home screen in the Instagram app."

Instagram has continued to work on IGTV, releasing a number of small updates to the video feature over the last few months. This past October, it launched a new Series feature that allows creators to categorize their videos into series.

In addition, it has been encouraging users to share IGTV content through the release of resources such as the Instagram Creator Handbook and posts on its new @Creators Instagram account that shares tips and tricks on how creators can utilize features and tools in the app.
