Facebook Adds The Ability To Connect A Reel To An Existing Video

Facebook added a 'Connect your reel to a video' option for Reels. During the publishing process, creators can create a Reel from an existing video and have the option to connect the Reel to that video via a toggle. Users will have the option to watch the video directly from the Reel.

Why It Matters: This option is similar to YouTube’s 'Related Video' feature for Shorts, giving creators the ability to connect short-form videos to other videos. However, Facebook’s feature has limited functionality since creators can only connect Reels to a video that they created the Reel from, as opposed to any existing video, which YouTube allows.

Adding more flexibility will make this feature stronger. In its current state, it can be a useful way for creators to drive traffic to long-form videos, especially those that are monetizable or part of brand collaborations.
