Instagram Tests Notes Prompts to Encourage Participation Amongst Teen Users
Instagram has started testing Notes Prompts, a new feature that encourages users to create a Note prompting others to respond with their own Note based on the prompt.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the test via his Broadcast Channel stating, “The idea is that by giving people more ways to participate, they might be more comfortable expressing themselves and then connect with friends in notes.”
Why It Matters: Similar to Add Yours, Notes Prompts lower the barrier for participation by allowing users to respond to someone else’s prompt, such as a question.
Notes have been a key focus area for Instagram, with previous launches including support for music in Notes and the ability to attach a 2-second, looping video to a Note. Instagram is expected to continue investing in Notes as they drive engagement, particularly among younger users.
According to Meta, teen users create Notes at 10 times the rate of non-teen users, with 20% of Notes by creators generating a reply.
