CapCut Launches ‘Long Video to Shorts’ to Turn Long, Horizontal Videos Into Short-form Videos
CapCut, the editing app owned by TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, launched 'Long Video to Shorts,' a new tool to create multiple short-form videos from one long-form, horizontal video with just one click. It's available for the desktop version of CapCut.
Users can upload a video that is more than one minute long but shorter than three hours. They can then choose the specific segment of the video they wish to convert, select from various durations, including Auto, less than 60 seconds, 60-90 seconds, and 90 seconds to 3 minutes, and proceed to convert.
Once the short-form videos have been generated, users have the option to edit them further using CapCut's array of features and tools, including captions.
Why It Matters: CapCut ventures into Opus Clip territory, favored by many creators, offering a similar user interface (UI) and user experience (UX). Like Opus Clip, CapCut's version empowers creators and marketers to transform their long-form videos into clips suitable for sharing across platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and other short-form video experiences.
As the ability to succeed often requires creators to be versatile across multiple formats, tools like these prove invaluable in helping creators diversify their presence with time and effort savings.
'Long Video to Shorts' provides more competition to Opus Clip, but Opus Clip itself made some upgrades that include similar offerings to CapCut for Business, including a Team Workspace that allows for collaboration between teams and the ability to export video files to Adobe Premiere Pro. Over the past few months, Opus Clip has been making a bigger push to cater to the marketer demographic.
