YouTube Rolls Out Separate Tabs For Its Different Video Formats On Creator Channel Pages
YouTube started rolling out separate tabs for its three different video formats (e.g., long-form, short-form, and live) on Channel Pages.
A Tab For Videos, Shorts & Live
The Videos tab will display YouTube's standard long video content. The Shorts tab will display all Shorts content. In addition, when viewers are watching Shorts in the Shorts feed and navigate to a creator's channel from the feed, YouTube will direct them to the Shorts tab to watch more short-form videos. Lastly, the Live tab will display all live streams, including active, scheduled, and archived streams. Viewers can also sort videos by Recently Updated and Popular within the tabs.
Easier Discovery For Viewers
With the separation of video formats, viewers can easily discover and identify the type of video content they are most interested in when visiting a creator's Channel Page. It is no longer necessary for viewers to scroll through all of a creator's videos to find the video format they want to consume.
How Creators Benefit
Creators will also benefit from this update. As all video formats were previously contained in one stream, some creators avoided making their streams public or creating Shorts to optimize the Channel experience for their communities. Similarly, many creators started new Channel Pages to share Shorts content specifically. As a result of a much more organized and cleaner Channel Page experience, creators can create and share across YouTube's different video formats without negatively impacting viewers. This will encourage creators to share content outside their primary video format, which is a plus for YouTube.
The new tabs complement YouTube’s recent visual makeover, which focuses on color, features a modern video player, and simplifies video navigation.
