Twitch Implements 100-Hour Storage Limit for Highlights and Uploads
Twitch / Storage Limit for Highlights
Starting April 19, Twitch will impose a 100-hour storage limit for Highlights and Uploads, including both published and unpublished content. Highlights are segments of a past broadcast (VODs), and Uploads refer to content created, saved, or edited elsewhere before being uploaded to Twitch.
If streamers exceed this limit, older content may be deleted unless they reduce their storage usage. Streamers can also download or export their content before it is removed.
To help streamers manage their storage, Twitch is launching a video storage tracker on the Video Producer page in the Creator Dashboard, along with sorting options for Highlights and Uploads by creation date, length, and view count.
Twitch notes that only 0.5% of active streamers currently exceed the 100-hour storage limit.
Why It Matters: Similar to Facebook’s recent policy on live video storage, Twitch is exploring ways to cut down on costly video storage.
Highlights and Uploads were originally intended to aid in content discovery and engagement, but Twitch has found they’ve had limited impact. Additionally, Twitch has since launched features like Clips and the Discovery Feed, which are proving to be more effective options
