Tubi Enters the Short-Form Video Space with 'Scenes' to Meet Users on the Go
Ad-supported streaming service Tubi has unveiled a new short-form video feature called ‘Scenes.’ Accessible through a dedicated tab in the mobile app's navigation, Scenes delivers curated 60- to 90-second clips from Tubi’s extensive library of 250,000 movies and TV shows. Users can interact with these clips by liking them, saving them to My List, or tapping the Watch button to view the full content. Additionally, clips can be cast to supported TVs for a bigger-screen experience.
Future updates, according to Mike Bidgoli, Tubi’s chief product and technology officer, may integrate Scenes into Tubi's homepage and enable users to share clips on social media, further expanding the feature's reach and engagement.
Why It Matters: Tubi joins companies like Netflix, UberEats, and Glassdoor in adopting short-form video to align with shifting viewer preferences, particularly among younger audiences.
While streaming services like Tubi and Netflix are leaning into more snackable content, social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok are embracing longer, episodic, TV-like formats. For example, YouTube is pushing episodic content, while TikTok is reportedly exploring Quibi-style mini-dramas, along with its support for longer video uploads.
These trends highlight how the lines between social media platforms and streaming services are blurring as both compete for users' screen time.
