Spotify Tests Author Pages & Video Clips to Elevate the Audiobook Experience
Spotify is experimenting with updates for Audiobooks, introducing three new features:
Author Pages: Dedicated pages for authors featuring their bio and complete catalog.
Video Clips: Select authors and publishers can submit short-form videos (up to 30 seconds) related to their titles.
Follow Along: An immersive visual experience where illustrations, photos, and graphics appear in sync with the audiobook.
Why It Matters: Fresh off announcing its new creator monetization program, the Spotify Partner Program, Spotify is now shifting its focus to audiobook features designed to deepen engagement.
For instance, Author Pages simplify discovery by helping users learn more about authors and explore their work. Video Clips—such as interview snippets, behind-the-scenes moments, recording sessions, or personal messages—provide a glimpse into the story, enticing users to dive in. Follow Along enhances the experience with visuals like illustrations, photos, and graphics, making audiobooks more dynamic and immersive.
Meanwhile, Amazon is feeling the pressure. In response to Spotify’s audiobook push, Amazon has added over a million Audible titles to Amazon Music. However, there’s a catch—users are limited to one audiobook per month.
