TikTok & Shopify Partner To Launch TikTok Shopping To Give Merchants The Ability To Create Digital Storefronts
TikTok and Shopify recently announced an extension of their partnership that delivers a new e-commerce feature in TikTok Shopping.
For the first time, Shopify merchants with a TikTok for Business account can add a Shopping tab to their TikTok profile and sync their Shopify product catalogs, creating a digital storefront that directs users to their e-commerce page for checkout.
To go along with this, TikTok and Shopify give merchants the ability to add product tags to their organic videos. Then, similar to the Shopping tab, users are directed to the merchant’s e-commerce page for checkout when clicked.
Kylie Jenner and her Kylie Cosmetics brand are among about 100 brands and creators that currently have access to TikTok Shopping.
“By enabling new in-app shopping experiences and product discovery on TikTok for the first time, Shopify is powering the creator economy on one of the fastest-growing social and entertainment platforms in the world. We are excited to help this next generation of entrepreneurs connect with their audiences in more ways—and with TikTok as a visionary partner,” said Harley Finkelstein, president of Shopify, in a statement.
TikTok Shopping functions as TikTok's latest step in expanding its e-commerce efforts, which it has steadily been building for the past two years. Although it still has a long way to catch up with Facebook and Instagram, which have robust e-commerce capabilities, the ByteDance owned company is making progress.
TikTok Shopping provides merchants, whether businesses and creators, the opportunity to leverage the powerful combination of content, community, and commerce.
Although social commerce is still in the early days in the United States, Canada, and other regions, it's likely to be more significant in the future, based on what is happening in China, especially as more people take their business online. Because of this, platforms like TikTok are continuously trying to bridge the gap between product discovery and purchase.
Expect TikTok to roll out more shopping-related features soon.
