Instagram Combines IGTV & Feed Videos To Create A More Streamlined Video Experience
Instagram is eliminating some of the clutter within its app.
The social media platform announced it's combining IGTV and Feed videos into one format, simply called Instagram Video.
"We love that our creator community has embraced video as a key format to tell their stories, entertain and connect with their audiences, and that's why we want to make it even simpler to create and discover videos on Instagram," the platform shared in a press release.
Along with the revamped format comes a new Video tab on profiles and new tools like trimming, filters, and people, and location tagging.
The video upload process will remain the same, with users able to upload videos by going to their camera roll and clicking on the + sign. They can also continue to share videos to Stories and via Direct Message.
On the other hand, video previews will now be 60 seconds long, except for videos eligible for ads. Those videos will be just 15 seconds in length.
Plus, users can now tap anywhere on a video to enter a full-screen viewing mode and keep scrolling after watching a video to find more content they may be interested in based on Instagram’s recommendations.
A More Streamlined Video Experience
With a singular format for long-form video and new ways for users to upload and discover video content, Instagram's latest updates create a more streamlined video experience.
Many users indicated they have been confused about the differences between the various video formats Instagram offered. Therefore, getting rid of the IGTV brand provides users with a much simpler, easier-to-digest video suite to choose from.
Now with clearer distinction, between long-form video (Instagram Video), short-form video (Instagram Reels), ephemeral video (Instagram Stories), and live video (Instagram Live), it’s easier for creators to understand and invest in the specific video format (s) that will help them achieve their desired goals.
Instagram Is All In On Video
From Adam Mosseri saying Instagram is "no longer a square photo-sharing app" to continued investments in Reels, it’s no surprise Instagram is all in on video content.
If you're looking to strengthen your content strategy and build community, you certainly will want to amplify your video content efforts on Instagram. All Instagram’s recent moves indicate video content is what they care about most right now and will care about most in the future especially with increased competition from TikTok.
