Reddit Rolls Out New ‘Hide’ Ad Option for Users

Reddit

Reddit introduced a feature that allows users to hide ads from their Home or Subreddit feeds. Through a "Hide" option available when tapping the three dots on an ad, users can remove specific ads from their feed. Additionally, this will automatically hide future ads from the advertiser’s account for at least a year. Users will have the option to re-hide ads after that period.

This feature is rolling out gradually across iOS, Android, and the web in the coming weeks.

Last year, Reddit added sensitive ad filters, enabling users to limit ads on topics such as politics and religion. The platform says it will continue improving ad controls to enhance the user experience.

Why It Matters: Giving users the ability to hide ads provides greater control over their ad experience, whether they prefer a cleaner, less cluttered feed or want to avoid ads from irrelevant advertisers. These types of tools are especially important as Reddit continues ramping up its ad business.

This feature also benefits Reddit. When users hide ads, it signals to the platform what types of ads aren’t resonating, helping refine ad targeting. In turn, this improves ad relevance for users and increases value for advertisers by ensuring their content reaches more engaged audiences.
