LinkedIn Experiments with Displaying ‘Videos for You’ at the Top of the Feed
LinkedIn has made some slight changes to ‘Videos for You,’ its carousel of short-form videos that appears in users' feeds.
This section is now starting to show up at the top of users' feeds, after initially appearing further down. The videos themselves are displayed more prominently, with a taller format that takes up more vertical space. Additionally, LinkedIn has reduced the number of videos shown at a time from five to three.
Why It Matters: It’s no secret that video is a big focus for LinkedIn at the moment, as evidenced by the launch of a dedicated TikTok-like video tab and the Videos for You carousel, along with other editorial content providing users with guidance and highlighting the value of creating short-form video content for the platform.
These updates continue LinkedIn’s prioritization of video, but the changes might indicate that it's looking to improve the user experience.
Bringing videos to the top of the feed and making them more prominent will help with visibility, which benefits creators and marketers’ whose video content is recommended through this experience. At the same time, reducing the number of videos displayed in the carousel makes the recommendations more focused for users.
Because of the mixed reactions from users around the growing presence of video on the platform, expect LinkedIn to continue experimenting with its video features as it tries to balance meeting the demand for video content while still maintaining space for its core format—text.
