Instagram's Latest Updates for Reels: A Dedicated Section for Trends, Unified Editing Screen, Updated Insights and Expanded Gifts
Instagram has introduced new updates to Reels. Here’s what’s new:
What’s Trending: Creators can now stay updated with the latest Reels trends, including top songs and hashtags, through a new dedicated section in the app.
Unified Editing Screen: The editing process for Reels has been streamlined, allowing creators to access video clips, audio, stickers, and text from a unified editing screen.
Updated Reels Insights: New metrics for Reels are now available in Total Watch Time and Average Watch Time. The former captures the total time a Reel was watched, including replays, while the latter is calculated by dividing the watch time by the total number of plays.
Reels Growth Notifications: Creators will receive notifications when they gain new followers from their Reels.
Expanded Gifts: The tipping feature is expanding to more creators across more markets, including Australia, Canada, France, Mexico, New Zealand, and the UK in the coming weeks. Creators will also be able to see which fans sent them a gift and recognize it by tapping the heart icon next to the Gift.
These updates offer benefits for creators, such as helping them stay on top of the latest trends and create more engaging content based on what the Instagram community is currently consuming. Creators can better measure the performance of their Reels content and understand how Reels are driving follower growth. Additionally, creators can thank their supporters who reward them with tips. Many of these updates bring Instagram's short-form video experience closer to TikTok, which could make it more appealing to creators.
