Instagram is getting ready to release new editing tools for Reels, according to a new workshop it held with creators in India. Here's what's coming:

  • Split: Easily divide a single clip into two separate clips

  • Speed: Control playback speed with new settings and options

  • Replace: Swap out one clip with another while keeping the same duration and order

Along with monetization features like Gifts and Ads on Reels, Instagram is focused on making the Reels creation experience more streamlined. Although these updates may seem small, they add up over time and help Instagram better compete with TikTok, which has a user-friendly experience. The Replace feature, in particular, is valuable for users to create ongoing series and content variations as it allows for seamless clip substitutions.
