Instagram Is Shuting Down Notes on Feed Posts & Reels

Adam Mosseri

Instagram is discontinuing Content Notes, a feature launched last summer that allowed users to leave Notes on posts and Reels, which would then appear in the feeds of mutual followers. In a video, Adam Mosseri explained that the feature was intended to make Instagram more social and fun, but it hasn’t gained widespread adoption. Instagram plans to explore new ways to achieve this goal while removing features that haven’t resonated with users.

Why It Matters: Content Notes had potential but ultimately didn’t meet user expectations. Some creators attempted to gamify the feature by leaving Notes on their own content to boost visibility, but many users, myself included, found seeing posts in this way to be a negative experience, leading some to mute Content Notes altogether.
