Instagram Introduces Longer Stories To Improve The Viewing Experience

Instagram recently introduced longer Stories. Videos up to 60 seconds long will no longer be broken into 15-second segments.

“We are always working on ways to improve the Stories experience. Now, you’ll be able to play and create Stories continuously for up to 60 seconds instead of being automatically cut into 15-second clips, a Meta spokesperson told TechCrunch in a statement.

Creators will benefit from a more streamlined uploading process for Stories content, while viewers will enjoy a less interrupted viewing experience. As a result of the expansion, more creators may use Stories for more long-form video content.

In the case of branded content, this could cause friction in the short term. Historically, creators and brands have priced and paid for Stories content based on the number of frames/segments (e.g., “2-3 Instagram Story Frames”). As a result of this update, sponsored Stories may become priced based on their length of them.
