YouTube Updates Creator Channel Pages On TV As It Becomes The Number One US Streaming Platform
YouTube announced updates for Channel pages for creators on the YouTube app for TV. The changes include larger Channel art that expands end to end, more prominent buttons such as Subscribe, and a more modern design.
In addition, YouTube revealed that Nielsen crowned it the number one streaming platform in the US by watch time for the past 12 consecutive months.
Why It Matters: As YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said, “YouTube’s next frontier is the living room.” The platform has been vocal about its expansion to television and its success. With over 1 billion hours of YouTube content consumed daily on television, creators are not only contributing to this growth but also reaping its benefits.
The number of top creators that received a majority of their watch time on televisions grew by 400%, while views on Shorts on connected TVs grew by more than 90% from January to July 2023.
As television is a common way for YouTube consumption, the Channel Page experience on the big screen is a much more important touchpoint, making these upgrades valuable. The more immersive experience highlights creators’ content better and boosts the likelihood of viewers becoming subscribers. To take full advantage of the updates, creators should make sure to update their Channel Page art with a high-quality 16x9 image.
What Else?: Creators optimizing their content for televisions is the immediate focus, but in the near future, creators will likely need to think about how their content appears on the Apple Pro Vision, Meta Quest, and other VR/AR headsets as spatial content looks to be the next opportunity for creators and their audiences.
