Tumblr Launches New Navigation Experience for the Web
Tumblr has launched a new navigation experience for its web platform after a month of testing with select users. The experience is very similar to X’s, with the main navigation bar located on the left side of the screen and the post creation button at the bottom left. The navigation bar is also collapsible, a change from the previous version of the platform, which had the navigation bar located at the top right.
Tumblr states that the update is part of its mission to make it as easy as possible for new and existing users to understand and explore what is happening on Tumblr.
Why it Matters: Tumblr's updated navigation is a significant change for the platform. It is the first of many changes that are likely to come as Tumblr tries to execute its go-forward strategy. The updated navigation is designed to make the platform easier to use, a key challenge that Tumblr has faced in the past.
In addition, the new navigation is similar to the navigation on X, a platform from which Tumblr has been trying to attract users. There's no word on what Tumblr is working on next, but part of its strategy is to retain and grow its creator base. Therefore, it's possible that upcoming initiatives could revolve around creators.
