TikTok Tests FootNotes, Its Iteration of X’s Community Notes
TikTok
TikTok has announced it's testing FootNotes, a new feature designed to give users more context about content on the platform. Rolling out first in the U.S., users accepted as contributors will be able to add relevant information to short-form videos and rate the contributions of others. Only FootNotes rated as helpful will be visible to the wider community.
Those interested in becoming FootNotes contributors can apply here.
Why It Matters: Inspired by X’s Community Notes, which Meta recently adopted as well, TikTok aims to provide viewers with authoritative, crowdsourced context. However, TikTok’s approach stands out by complementing its existing platform safety and integrity efforts, including fact-checking, which both X and Meta have scaled back or discontinued.
