TikTok Tests AI-Powered Script Generator to Accelerate Video Script Ideation Process
TikTok is testing a Script Generator, an AI-powered tool that helps create scripts for TikTok videos promoting products or services. This tool is currently in beta and accessible to select users on TikTok for Business.
Here's how it works:
Users enter information and criteria in a short and user-friendly workflow, including:
Industry: Selecting the relevant industry category from options like General, Apparel & Accessories, Beauty & Personal Care, Food & Beverage, Home Improvement, Games, and Utilities App.
Product Name: Providing the name of the product.
Product Description: Adding a description of the product.
Advanced Settings allow users to include additional information and criteria:
Video Format: Choosing a specific video style like a green-screen background, product boxing, or product testing. If no preference is selected, the Automatic System Selection will determine the best format based on the provided details. This helps enhance script structure and accuracy.
Keywords: Adding up to five 50-character keywords that highlight the product/service's selling points or benefits. These keywords will be incorporated into the script.
Duration: Choosing between a short video (15-30 seconds) or a long video (31-60 seconds).
After completing the workflow, users can tap "Generate Scripts," which will generate three different scripts. Each script is composed of three parts: a Hook, a Scene, and a Call to Action. They outline voiceovers, on-screen visuals, and text overlays. Users can rate the script with a thumbs up or thumbs down to indicate the quality of it. They can also copy the scripts to paste them elsewhere.
Creators and marketers have already started using ChatGPT and similar generative AI tools for producing scripts for TikTok and other video experiences. However, having a native tool specifically designed for TikTok can greatly simplify and streamline the process. In addition, these tailored scripts are more likely to be effective since they are structured based on the video types that tend to perform well on TikTok and likely include direct insights from TikTok around the best language, text overlays, and visuals.
Although not perfect, the Script Generator offers a solid foundation for creators and marketers to generate TikTok-specific scripts with just a few clicks. These outputs can be tweaked and refined to reflect their unique voice and add a human component, which is still an important part of creating engaging content. This saves time, allows for exploring multiple script variations, and overall accelerates video creation for both organic and paid media purposes.
As the feature is still in beta and TikTok has a track record of innovating quickly, I expect Script Generator's capabilities to expand down the line and potentially include functionalities for video ideation beyond scripts. This could include the ability to make edits directly within the Script Results, more granular details such as specific text styles for overlays, captions, and hashtags, examples of existing videos similar to the script components, and options for scripts for longer videos (60 seconds or more) to align with TikTok's push for longer videos.
