TikTok Introduces New Stitch Feature That Lets Users Sample Other Videos, Promoting More Collaboration
Despite a potential ban in the U.S., TikTok continues to push forward. The short-form video app recently introduced a new feature for users called Stitch, which it started testing in April.
“Today, we're excited to announce the launch of a new editing feature called Stitch, which introduces yet another way for users to engage with the world of content that's made and shared every day by the ever-creative TikTok community,” TikTok said in a statement.
With Stitch, users can sample a 5-second portion of videos from other users and integrate them into their own videos.
“Like Duet, Stitch is a way to reinterpret and add to another user's content, building on their stories, tutorials, recipes, math lessons, and more,” TikTok explained.
Users can access the feature through the following steps:
Open the TikTok app, find a video you'd like to Stitch, and hit the “Send to” button
Press the “Stitch” button
Select up to five seconds from the video. You can trim the clip to your preferred duration.
Record your addition to the Stitched clip
Start Stitching together your videos for expanded storytelling
To be able to use Stitch, users must adjust the settings on the Privacy and Safety page, which can be found under ‘Settings and Privacy’ in the app. The feature can be enabled or disabled for all videos. Additionally, users can toggle it on for individual video uploads.
Videos made with Stitch will feature attribution to the original creator in the new video caption and link back to the original video.
Insights & Analysis:
Based on the success of similar features, Duet, and React, Stitch will be welcomed by TikTok users.
With many videos centered around responses and reactions existing on the platform, Stitch provides users with a new way to continue this behavior. Overall, the app’s user base has embraced community interaction and engagement, making the launch of the feature a smart move. Through Stitch, TikTok further promotes collaboration, storytelling, and trendsetting, all of which will result in even more entertaining and engaging videos that keep users glued to the screen.
Look for TikTok to keep rolling out new features for users, especially those that enable creativity and collaboration.
