Fresh off of purchasing Bill Simmons’ Ringer, Spotify rolls out a trio of new updates to its Podcast Show page including a redesign of the Podcast Show page, new show categories, and featured show trailers.

Below is a breakdown of each of the updates:

Redesigned Podcast Show Page

The Podcast Show page has been redesigned. It still has the same features as before, however, the descriptions of the show have moved so that users no longer have to swipe up on a show to read them. Instead, they can read the descriptions at a single glance.

New Show Categories

Descriptive show categories such as personal stories, true crime, travel, relationships, and more now are displayed underneath the show descriptions. When a user clicks on a specific category, they can see more shows that fall in that category and ultimately, find similar shows that they may be interested in.

Featured Show Trailers

Shows that have trailer episodes for users to stream will be prominently highlighted at the top of the episode list. These trailers provide the opportunity for users to get a feel for a show in the form by listening to one-two minute previews of the show before fully committing to the episode.

These updates are now available in the Spotify app for both iOS and Android devices.

Insights & Analysis:

Over the last year and a half, Spotify has spent a significant amount of time building out its podcast capabilities. In addition to acquiring relevant podcast companies and networks like Anchor, Gimlet Media, PodcastOne, and others, the Swedish company has released a number of podcast-focused features such as the ability to add podcasts to playlists and daily podcast recommendations, all in the effort to increase podcast discovery.

These new updates to Podcast Show page continue Spotify’s mission of improving podcast discovery.
