Spotify Rolls Out New Settings & Controls To Make It Easier For Podcast Creators to Manage Comments
Spotify, which introduced Comments on podcasts in July, is now rolling out new settings and controls to help creators better manage their comment sections. They include:
Automatically Publish New Comments: English-language comments will now be automatically published as long as they meet Spotify’s Platform Rules. Potentially sensitive or inappropriate comments will be routed to the creator for review and approval through Spotify for Podcasters.
Comment Controls: Creators can set preferences for how comments are managed, with options including:
Standard (default): Hold only potentially sensitive or inappropriate comments for review.
High: Hold all comments for review (no comments will be automatically published).
Low: Automatically publish all comments, including potentially sensitive or inappropriate ones, though comments that violate platform rules will still be removed.
Keyword Block Lists: Creators can block specific keywords, phrases, or emojis. Comments containing these will be held for manual review and approval.
New Languages: Spotify plans to support comments in additional languages in the future.
Why It Matters: In just a few months, Spotify’s comment feature is gaining traction. Since launch, over 2.5 million comments have been submitted, with 650,000 episodes featuring comments. Notably, 44% of published comments on Spotify receive a like or reply from the creator.
These numbers show that Spotify is making progress toward its goal of fostering two-way dialogue between creators and listeners.
The new control options give creators more flexibility in managing their comment sections—from allowing comments to flow freely to moderating sensitive ones based on their preferences. Creators can now better curate the environment they want for audience engagement.
With ongoing improvements aimed at fostering greater engagement and community, Spotify is moving toward offering a more YouTube-like experience.
