Spotify Is Testing A Sponsored Version Of Its ‘Brand New Music For You!’ Feature
If Spotify is your streaming service of choice, then it’s likely that you’ve been on the end of the service’s Brand new music for you! feature, a full-screen pop-up notification recommending a new album.
Based on positive feedback via interviews with Premium users and feedback from Spotify fans on Twitter around the pop-ups, the service is currently offering artists and their teams the ability to target and connect with their fans with sponsored versions of these full-screen pop-up recommendations.
These recommendations will still be based on a listener’s musical taste, which is refreshing as a user as the pop-ups will likely be relevant to you. However, in the case that you get a recommendation that you aren’t into, you have the option to turn them off if you’re a Premium user.
“With our unique understanding of listener preferences and ability to deliver personalized recommendations, we can help artists reach the fans that care most about their music, driving value for both artists and fans. We view this as the next iteration of the popular recommendation and discovery features listeners already love on Spotify,” Beck Koss, VP Product and Strategy: Creator at Spotify said in a press release.
With persistent competition from Apple and TIDAL, Spotify continues to do a great job of enhancing its service for both artists and their fans. The sponsored version of its Brand new music for you! feature will help artists easily get their new music into the ears of their fans as well as allow fans to easily keep up with the latest music from artists that they like. From a business perspective, it also provides Spotify with another source of revenue.
