Instagram's New 'Series' Feature For IGTV Allows Creators To Categorize Their Videos Into Series
Continuing to bolster its short-form video hub, Instagram has launched a new Series feature for IGTV. Announced via Twitter, the feature gives content creators the ability to categorize their videos into series with a consistent title and theme. Videos that are part of a series will display as one playlist on a new series page, making it easy for viewers to access all of the videos that are within a series.
Now you can easily watch IGTV series from creators you love and get notified when there are new episodes.

Along with this, the new feature brings the choice for viewers to opt-in to receive notifications when a creator publishes a new video in a series. There is also a Continued Watching component, which provides viewers with episode recommendations after they have finished watching a video, helping viewers to easily keep up with a creator’s full catalog.
Using the Series feature is quite easy. When uploading a new video to IGTV, a creator will see a new option that says 'Add To Series.’ If this is the first time they are creating a series, they will be prompted to give the series a name and description. On the other hand, a creator can add an existing video to a series by tapping on that video, tapping the overflow menu and then selecting ‘Edit.’ From there, they will see a ‘Add To Series’ option. Once they tap that, they can add that video to a new series or an existing one.
The Series feature is part of a handful of new features that have come to IGTV in the last year. Like its predecessors, the feature is certainly a welcome addition but still not enough to appease video creators and consumers across the board. Instagram will need to continue to build and release new features for IGTV especially around content discovery and creator monetization if the platform is going to ever seriously compete with YouTube.
