Reddit Is Exploring New Video Features
Reddit is exploring new video features. Reddit explained that it plans to bring new video experiences to the platform that allow users to interact and engage in topical discussions they care about the most through different content formats. Reddit will ask communities for input and feedback before launching specific features, particularly those where the video format is a good fit.
"In line with our work to help people engage in the topics that matter to them through social audio, video, text, memes, and more, we're in the process of reaching out to a few Reddit communities to see if a new video feature we’re working on is something they find useful and fun. After getting feedback from Redditors, we’ll explore an initial test for this new capability,” Reddit said in a press statement.
Reddit's video ambitions are strong. Since acquiring and ultimately shutting down Dubsmash, a short-form video app, it has expanded its video capabilities to include a TikTok-like video feed and video creation tools. Based on its mission, forthcoming video features will likely include an iteration of TikTok's Video Replies or Duets, which enable creators to reply to comments through a video and post a video by video, respectively. Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter launched similar features to encourage and foster co-creation and community engagement. This feature could help Reddit do the same while accelerating its mission to bring people together around topics.
