Pinterest has started to roll out a new shopping feature called Shopping Spotlights, which surfaces curated, recommendations by fashion and home and decor influencers, and publishers.

Shopping Spotlights live on the search tab with articles featuring shoppable product Pins that link out to product pages. Along with these, users can also shop curated ideas based on current Pinterest trends including “tie dye, terracotta home accents, and intergalactic makeup.”

“With the feel of a personal stylist and the look of an editorial magazine, shopping the latest trends as well as product picks of your favorite influencers and magazines has never been easier,” the platform said.

At launch, Pinterest is partnering with guest editors including former Teen Vogue EIC, journalist and author Elaine Welteroth, fashion influencer Blair Eadie and interior designer Sarah Sherman Samuel as well as fashion and lifestyle publishers Refinery29, Domino, Who What Wear, InStyle, Nylon, and Harper’s Bazaar.

Pinterest is expected to add new guest editors on a weekly basis, which should help keep recommendations fresh and diverse.

Insights & Analysis:

Pinterest launched Shopping Spotlights the same day (May 19th) that Facebook revealed Facebook Shops, so there hasn’t been a ton of conversation around it. However, Shopping Spotlights is a notable new feature that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Through the addition of the feature, Pinterest continues to strengthen itself as a destination for discovery while leveraging the power of influencers and current trends. Featuring an audience that is looking for inspiration, Shopping Spotlights will accelerate the process of moving consumers from discovery to purchase.

In the last few months, Pinterest has released a new Today tab, added new planning features, and launched a new Pinterest Business Community platform, and much more, helping to make it a platform that brands and creators should invest in.
