Pinterest Is Testing A New Version Of Story Pins, The Platform’s Stories-Like Format
Pinterest is testing a new version of Story Pins, the platform’s feature that lets creators share content in a Stories-like format.
With Story Pins, creators can share up to 20 pages consisting of multiple images, videos, lists, and custom text. They can be used for step-by-step guides, DIY projects, recipes, and more. They appear in a user’s home feed and are easily identified by a ‘Story’ icon at the top left of the Story Pin.
Unlike Story features on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, Story Pins don’t disappear after 24 hours, which allows creators to save Story Pins to a Pinterest Board just as they can with standard Pins.
“We’re always testing new ways to respond to creator feedback and give them more tools to bring their ideas to a growing audience,” a Pinterest spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch.
The platform initially tested a version of Story Pins last year, but this new version is slightly different and offers a few new experiences, including Story Pin discovery as well as further editing and publishing features, including topic tagging, color customization, and video-support.
Story Pins are currently being tested with a select group of U.S. based creators. If you’re interested in testing them out yourself, you can request access to the feature by filling out a form available here.
Insights & Analysis:
Story Pins empower creators with another way to express their creativity and story-tell on the platform. Through multiple images, videos, captions, and more, creators can easily create and share inspirational and instructional content in a more in-depth way. This makes them perfect for sharing content such as travel guides, how-tos, beauty tutorials, food recipes, and DIY projects especially in the case where additional context for content is needed, but not in the form of a full length blog post. With content being shared in a longer format than standard Pins, creators have the ability to increase engagement and reach new audiences.
Over the last few months, Pinterest has been one of the most consistent platforms when it comes to new features, tools, and experiences. In less than two months, it released a new shopping feature in Shopping Spotlights, revamped its Pinterest Business Community hub, and more.
Instagram and TikTok may be getting all the mainstream attention, but there is a lot of opportunity on Pinterest for marketers and creators.
