Tumblr Launches A New ‘Pinned Posts’ Feature
Tumblr has launched a new Pinned Posts feature that enables users to pin a specific post to the top of their Tumblr page.
The microblogging platform made the announcement in a recent blog post, stating:
“Whether you’re on desktop or mobile, this little tool will pin the post of your choosing to the top of your Tumblr. Your dashboard will remain unaffected. Just tap the meatballs menu (three dots) on the upper-right-hand corner of your post, slam your finger down on ‘Pin’ and you’re in business, baby—the business of pinning posts.”
Users can take advantage of the feature by simply tapping the three dots on the corner of their post and then tapping the ‘Pin’ icon. At launch, only one post can be pinned at a time. However, users can change their pinned post at any time by pinning a new one, which will override the previously pinned post or by removing a pinned post and pinning a new post.
Insights & Analysis:
With Pinned Posts, Tumblr joins the likes of Facebook and Twitter, who both have similar functionalities that let users pin specific content to the top of their profiles or pages. As with these other platforms, this feature is an excellent way for users to highlight a particular piece of content that they want visitors to see when they come to their page.
Since a big part of Tumblr's experience involves the re-blogging of content, the feature empowers users to continue to share content as they usually would while bringing attention to a specific post and potentially increasing exposure for it.
Tumblr previously had a Pinned Posts feature but it was an ad product and functioned slightly different. For $5, users could pin their posts to the top of their followers' dashboard for 24 hours. Based on the platform’s current ad set, this is no longer available.
