Pinterest Adds New Planning Features Including The Ability To Add Notes & Dates To Boards
Pinterest is adding a new set of features for boards that will make it easier for users to plan on the platform.
"With increases in the creation of boards focused on virtual activities* (+50% from March to April), virtual learning and virtual baby showers, for instance, we want to make board organization easier than ever, so Pinners can take action on the ideas they find," the platform said in a blog post.
The new features include the ability to add dates and notes to boards, the automatic grouping of Pins, and suggested sections.
Here’s a breakdown of the features:
Dates To Boards
Users now have the ability to add dates to their boards so that they can track the timeline of their projects. They also have the option to archive the board once they've finished the project. This can come in handy for projects and virtual activities that have a specific date tied to them.
Notes To Boards
Along with dates, there is a new notes feature that allows users to add details relating to their boards such as the ingredients needed for a recipe or a to-do list relating to a specific project.
Automatic Grouping & Suggested Templates:
Pinterest also has added a new automatic grouping feature that uses data from the platform and machine learning to suggest sections to organize boards by, helping users to identify potential board themes.
Plus, it is providing a new experience for users as they begin new projects. Once they save their first Pin, the platform will provide suggested sections and ideas for topics relating to invitations, food and drink, decor, and activities.
These new features are rolling out globally today (May 6th) on the web, iOS, and Android devices.
Insights & Analysis:
It's no secret that Pinterest has become one of the go-to destinations for people to find inspiration.
This has become even more apparent during the current pandemic. The number of boards created and engagement with boards in April was up by 60% and 75%, respectively, compared to that time last year (Pinterest internal data, Global, April 2019, April 2020)). Plus, the platform saw a 50 percent increase in the number of boards created with virtual in the title (i.e. virtual activities, virtual learning, etc) between March and April, highlighting how valuable the platform continues to be for people right now.
With more people flocking to the platform to plan and organize virtual activities and activities to do at home, these new features make perfect sense and align with the current behavior of consumers.
The features make it easier and more efficient for users to plan on the platform, especially with the addition of the notes and dates features. These allow users to keep relevant details and timing pertaining to activities in one centralized location versus them having to keep track of them off the platform such as listing out recipe ingredients in a separate notes app or keeping track of a project via Google Calendar.
Pinterest has stayed quite busy these past two months, releasing new features, tools, and experiences to help users adjust to the new normal. Look for them to remain active and make updates according to the new normal.
Whether you're a brand or creator, I highly recommend doubling down on your Pinterest efforts or exploring it if you aren't already creating content on the channel. There’s a lot of opportunity on the platform especially if you can share content that adds value to people's lives right now.
