TikTok has launched #NewMusic, a dedicated music hub where users can discover new and trending music from both new and established artists. The hub is supported by the Jonas Brothers and Miguel, who are currently featured artists on #NewMusic. Their music will be highlighted in playlists, challenges, and more.

This launch should come as no surprise, as music has been a significant part of TikTok since its inception. TikTok has become one of the most influential platforms for discovering music, from new tunes from emerging artists to classics by established acts.

#NewMusic will create more opportunities for artists to be discovered and provide a central location for creators to find music to incorporate into their TikTok videos.

Over the years, TikTok has implemented several music initiatives, such as SoundOn, a music marketing and distribution platform designed to help artists get their music to the masses and grow their fanbase. There is also Resso, a music streaming platform owned by ByteDance, TikTok's parent company. Currently, the service is only available in markets like India, Indonesia, and Brazil, but reports say it may expand into other markets like the U.S.

With the popularity of music on TikTok, including an impressive 19.4 billion views on the #newmusic hashtag, TikTok has a significant opportunity to expand its support for music. It could offer sponsorship and advertising placements for labels and musicians when they release new music or partner with artists on exclusive music releases on TikTok. Earlier this year, TikTok and Snoop Dogg partnered to do an exclusive re-release of the Death Row Records catalog.

Thanks to its powerful algorithm, TikTok could become a pivotal opponent for music streaming platforms such as Spotify and YouTube Music if it adds more features similar to those platforms.
