Google is currently piloting a new service called Bulletin that crowdsources local news. The service lets users share news and stories through text, photos, and videoclips directly to the web from the convenience of their phones.  There is no need for them to build a website or create a blog post.

Bulletin stories will be public and can be accessed through Google search, shared on social media, and sent via email and various messaging apps.

With the service, Google hopes it will help communities highlight stories that aren't covered by national or regional newspapers.

Bulletin is currently in pilot in Nashville, TN and Oakland, CA. Journalists that are interested in testing out the service can request early access by filling out a form.

In other technology news, Apple will soon join the B2C text communication space with its new Business Chat feature.
