Giannis Antetokounmpo signs a long-term deal with Nike that includes his own signature shoe
At the end of September, Nike's deal with Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis "The Greek Freak" Antetokounmpo expired, making the Greece born basketball player the biggest sneaker free agent in the NBA. Despite Adidas and Li-Ning pursuing him heavy, Nike was able to re-sign him, secure a long-term deal, and add even more star power to a roster that already includes Lebron James and Kevin Durant.
The 22-year-old revealed the big news via social media, posting a video to Instagram:
With the deal, Antetokounmpo will get his own signature shoe, making him just the 22nd athlete in the company's history to get their own signature shoe. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed but it's expected it will pay him $7-10 million a year, an amount that is significantly more than his original deal of a mere $25,000.
