Facebook recently shared several resources to help businesses impacted by COVID-19 communicate and connect with their customers.

“We know that many businesses are facing unexpected challenges right now, including keeping in touch with customers, so we wanted to share a few things you can do to get ahead of these challenges and stay connected,” the company said in a blog post.

These resources include ready-made post templates,  automated responses and ideas, and tips on how businesses can utilize Facebook and Instagram Live.

The ready-made post templates are simple yet visually appealing graphics that businesses can share on Facebook or Instagram to provide their customers with important updates such as their contact information, that they are accepting orders, and the availability of gift cards.

Facebook’s automated responses enable businesses to stay connected to their customers via Facebook Messenger and Instagram easily. Currently, there are a total of four automated responses that businesses can utilize to answer customers’ questions about orders and the closure of their retail store.

Last but not least, Facebook shared a few ideas and tips on businesses that can take their events online, especially businesses that had to postpone or cancel an in-person event. Similar to the How-To guide, Instagram released a few weeks ago, Facebook lists a handful of ideas and tips for businesses going Live:

5 ideas for going Live

  • Host a Q&A

  • Go Live with someone in your audience and interview them

  • Showcase and explain your products or services

  • Teach your audience how to do something

  • Create a Live series

Tips for your Live:

  • Go live with Wi-Fi instead of cellular data for a smoother video.

  • For steadier shots, use a tripod or prop your phone up against a wall or a book.

  • Interact with your audience and respond to comments during your broadcast.

  • To get more viewers, post about your event ahead of time. You can create an event post on Facebook, or a Story with the countdown sticker on Instagram.

  • When your Live concludes, you can save or post the video to keep it.

Insights & Analysis:

Social media platforms like Facebook continue to leverage their strengths and resources to help out businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whether it be the ready-made post templates, automated responses or the ideas and tips for businesses to go Live, these resources should help businesses communicate and connect with their customers easily. This is especially true for small and independent businesses that don’t have a dedicated team or the resources to come up with COVID-19 related creative and provide around the clock customer support.

Even before the pandemic, social media has been a useful tool for businesses to leverage customer service and support. With the additional challenges that the pandemic presents for businesses, social media will need to be leaned on even more for businesses to communicate and connected with their customers.
