Twitch has announced that it is rolling out a beta version of Watch Parties. This feature enables creators and their communities to watch popular TV shows and movies together on Amazon Prime

"During this time of uncertainty, we know how valuable shared experiences like Watch Parties are to our community," said Twitch in a blog post.

The live-streaming platform started testing the feature back in October with a select group of creators. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is now rolling it out a bit earlier and making the beta available to Twitch Partners in the U.S. and creators in the U.S. who are active Amazon Prime members in the next few weeks. Partners and creators will receive an email notification when they have access to the Watch Parties feature in their Creator Dashboard.

As of right now, the catalog for Watch Parties consists of movies and TV Shows requested by the Twitch community, including titles such as Star Trek, Survivor, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, and Hunters. The current list of available titles can be viewed here.

Eventually, the entire Amazon Prime catalog is expected to be available for Watch Parties.

Insights & Analysis:

Twitch has been one of the primary social media platforms that have benefited from a boom in streaming, as a result of the pandemic and people staying home.

Due to this, the roll-out of Watch Parties couldn't come at a better time. Not only are people looking for entertainment, but they are looking for new ways to socialize and interact with others, making Watch Parties the best of both worlds. Through Watch Parties, people can stream movies and TV shows with their favorite creators while interacting with others in the community.

Since the feature is still in beta, look for Twitch to use this roll-out as another way to get feedback that it can use to further improve the feature before launching the official version of Watch Parties.
